To top off Christmas day, we headed out to Christmas on the Pecos. Every year, all the residents along the Pecos River get together and decorate all the riverfronts with tons and tons of Christmas lights. Then the Chamber of Commerce runs pontoon boats down the river every night from Thanksgiving to New Years. They’re usually sold out was in advance, but Jay and I managed to get tickets for 9:30pm on Christmas night.
So we drove down to Carlsbad and got there early enough to browse around. We got a funnel cake and ate it before getting on the boat. The wind had really picked up and it was well below freezing by the time we got out on the river. Fortunately, the chamber of commerce also supplied blankets, and Jay and I both grabbed one in addition to our 3-4 layers of clothing. It was pretty cold out but we enjoyed it nonetheless.
Some of the displays were really big and ornate with coordinating music and animation in lights. Others were more traditional. Since it is the southwest, there were also lots of luminaries which made for a really nice effect when viewed from the river. We took a bunch of pictures, but only some of them came out. The videos seemed to come out a bit better, so here are some of those. The one of the penguins was my favorite, and the one of the steamship was Jay’s favorite.
