Day 12 – 12/28/07

Albuquerque, NM to Grand Canyon, AZ

Today was not much but a lot of driving. We had a bit of a slow start since the radiator had frozen and we had to jump through some hoops to get it thawed and liquid again. It was bitterly cold in Albuquerque, which wasn’t usual at all. Yesterday it never got above freezing and the low was around 10.

We did stop at a Wal-Mart and pick up an electric blanket and then made lunch. I did look up the weather forecast and the Grand Canyon is supposed to be cold. The low was 4 and the high was 28. Fortunately, it’s supposed to be (slightly) warmer with lows in the 15-18 range and highs in the low 30s.

Got into the “Trailer Village” at the Grand Canyon after dark, but this is far and away the most crowded and packed-in campground yet. Maybe 15 ft. between RV sites and I’d say that about 3/4 of the sites are occupied. I’m proud to say we have the most “ghetto” van on the lot complete with missing hubcab. (We lost the same one Jay rescued from the marauding goats somewhere along the interstate.) Our next door neighbor is a big RV that probably cost around 250k. That makes me laugh.
